Frequently Asked Questions

Do your bikes come assembled? +

Our bikes arrive 90% assembled. You only need to attach a few parts such as the front wheel, handlebars, and pedals. We provide step-by-step video instructions to make the setup quick and easy.

What comes in the bike box? +

Inside the box you'll find almost everything you need to get started:

• Your Coogee Bike
• Tool Kit
• Bike Charger (Australian Plug)
• Coogee Bikes Carry Bag
• Tyre Pump
• Mudguards & Lights
• Instruction Manual

Are e-bikes legal in Australia? +

Yes. E-bikes are legal in Australia when they comply with national e-bike standards.

In general, compliant e-bikes must:

• Use pedal assist (motor works while pedalling)
• Have a maximum motor output of 250W
• Provide assistance up to 25 km/h, after which the motor cuts out
• Follow standard bicycle road rules such as helmet use and bike path regulations

Regulations can vary slightly between states, so riders should check their local road authority for the latest information.

Do I need a license or registration? +

No. Because compliant e-bikes are classified as bicycles, you do not need a license, registration, or insurance to ride them.

What is the difference between an e-bike and an electric motorcycle? +

An E-Bike (Electric Bicycle) is a pedal-assist bicycle where the motor helps while you pedal. It follows bicycle regulations and has speed and power limits.

An Electric Motorcycle is powered purely by a motor (throttle only) and is legally classified as a motor vehicle, which typically requires registration, licensing, and road approval.

Is there an age limit for riding an e-bike? +

Age requirements can vary depending on state laws.

We recommend that riders under 16 are supervised by an adult, and that all riders wear a helmet and follow local road rules.

How long is the warranty? +

All Coogee Bikes come with a 1-year nationwide warranty covering manufacturing defects on key components. For more details, please visit our Warranty Policy page.

How long does shipping take? +

Standard delivery typically takes 2–8 business days, depending on your location.

How much does delivery cost? +

Shipping is a flat $100 across Australia and New Zealand. Accessories ship free of charge.

Do e-bikes require maintenance? +

Yes, like any bicycle. We recommend the first service at around 1,000 km, which includes a safety check and tune-up. After that, we recommend servicing your bike every 1,000 km or once per year.

What is the weight limit for your e-bikes? +

Our e-bikes support a maximum rider weight of 150 kg.

Are your e-bikes water resistant? +

Yes. Our bikes are water resistant, meaning they can handle light rain and wet conditions. However, they should not be submerged in water. When cleaning your bike, avoid spraying electrical components directly with a hose.

Why is the throttle limited to 6 km/h? +

Australian regulations limit throttle-only operation to 6 km/h, which allows it to function as a walk-assist feature. To go faster, the motor activates through pedal assist while riding.

Do you offer financing options? +

Yes. You can buy now and pay later using:

• Afterpay
• Zip Pay

Can I get spare parts if something breaks? +

Yes. We stock a full range of replacement parts and accessories, including tyres, tubes, brake pads, batteries, and electrical components.

If you ever need a part, simply contact our team and we’ll organise it quickly.

Can my local bike shop repair the bike? +

Yes. Our bikes use standard bicycle components, meaning most local bike shops can service and repair them.

If electrical parts are involved, our support team can assist the mechanic or provide replacement components.
